NEWS: 100 PS4 Games Coming This Year

A promised total of 100 titles are to make their way to PS4 by the end of 2014.

The official Twitter of PlayStation has confirmed a substantial amount of games are promised for 2014 - however, no titles were mentioned specifically but we can assume both indie and triple A content is included in that list.

This comes from the Media Summit, where the tweet simply read:

"Here's a fun fact: More than 100 PS4 games are planned for release in 2014. Stay tuned for more updates from today's media summit."

With the promise of so many games, this could boost sales of the PS4, which originally launched in November 2013 with exclusives such as Killzone Shadow Fall and Knack.

REVIEW: Far Cry 3

After you're through with this game, the chances of wanting to take a trip with your friends could be extremely slim.

Developer: Ubisoft Montreal | Publisher: Ubisoft | Genre: First-Person Shooter

PS3 | Xbox 360 | Windows PC

Through a strong narrative and sandbox gameplay, Far Cry 3 will keep you on your toes for a lengthy amount of time, offering a fantastic all-round experience.

After taking a trip with his younger brother Riley and a group of close friends, Jason Brody quickly realises this whole thing was an extremely bad idea. The game's tone is initially very innocent, showing off home video footage of the group having plenty of fun - but all of that soon becomes something extremely sinister.

Brody, along with the rest of the group are captured by Vaas - a maniac pirate who gets his adrenaline rushes through killing innocent people and stealing valuable items. It is when you escape, it becomes apparent just how vicious this game is going to be, this is mainly down to witnessing various murders within the pirate camp, along with lots unnerving behaviour.

After leaving the camp, it becomes your mission to save the rest of your friends (if they're still alive), and so it begins - you are put in the middle of a island rich with wildlife, beautiful ocean beaches, masses of green land, and a ruthless gang of pirates who are willing to slit your throat at a moments notice. This is literally Hell on paradise.

There are four difficulties, the easiest being 'adventure' to the most challenging 'master' mode - but after a while of getting used to the game, it is generally easy if you think properly before acting out certain situations, so in that respect it would be advised to choose a respectable difficulty, even if you are a casual gamer.

The game is essentially an open-world first person shooter with a combination of subtle RPG character-building elements - right from the start, it becomes clear you can practically do whatever you wish, creating a very non-linear experience. You can either pursue the main quests or explore the islands to seek out an array of side-quests and activities - its advised to 'do what you want' for a while to simply take in a feel of what the game will have to offer.

Side-quests involve hunting down certain pirates that when taken down, will grant you numerous rewards - usually a generous amount of cash, other quests include Trials of the Raykat, which will test your skills in specific areas of gameplay, for example one trial gives you an unlimited amount of grenades and you have to rack up the most points by causing absolute havoc on an endless amount of pirates.

Survival plays an important role into the success of Brody's goal, and this involves hunting down various animals - animals that will kill you pretty quick - this isn't to eat the dead carcus, but to skin them to use as material for numerous equipment upgrades, for example Shark skin will allow you to create a larger wallet, thus able to carry more cash. You can also combine plants to create syringes that aid you in the quest against those pesky pirates, such as improving your hunting skills temporarily, replenishing depleted health, and so forth.

Initially, most of the map is blanked out, this is because you have to make your way to abandoned radio towers that when activated, will reveal key points in a certain area, allowing yourself to take on new quests, or simply hunt down all of the collectibles. There is so much to collect in the game, giving you an extra reason to explore the island - these include relics and Letter of the Lost, which are a series of letters that reveal the island's past when it played host to an army of Japanese soldiers during World War II, and its things like this that make the game that much more mysterious.

Whilst the game has been praised highly so far, it does have its flaws - an example is the incredibly lousy enemy AI, most of the pirates won't notice you even if you're in close proximity, or they will acknowledge you, and all you have to do is hide behind a tree and they'll become instantly confused as to your whereabouts. Glitches are quite common too, mainly graphical glitches but the one that stands out most is getting stuck on invisible obstacles, which lead to a forced re-load to simply get out of that particular place.

Apart from that, its a solid game with some fantastic graphics - there is so much detail implemented into the game's surroundings, especially the actual structures such as caves, caverns, and ruins. When you enter these locations, you'll become instantly immersed into the game and part of that is down to graphical aids.

Overall, a brilliant game fueled with addictive gameplay and a narrative full of plot twists that could very well bring out your emotional side - all of that mixed with well-thought out quests and activities will provide an excellent gaming experience, one you shouldn't miss out on.  REVIEW1

NEWS: Uncharted 3 - New Multiplayer Map and Past DLC Maps Now Free

Previous DLC will now be completely free-of-charge, and a new map has also been unveiled.

Since its release 2 years ago, Naughty Dog are celebrating by making all the DLC multiplayer maps available to everyone, with no cost what so ever. Alongside this announcement, a new map titled Dry Docks has been revealed - set upon a very wet and slippery dock during the night.

Community Strategist at Naughty Dog praises the Uncharted community and fanbase, saying:

"It's been two years since Uncharted 3 was released. Our community is simply amazing, and we're looking to make it stronger than ever. To that end, we combed over a multitude of comments and forum posts to see what you wanted changed in the multiplayer game. We took the most highly-sought changes mentioned and made them happen. The list of those changes is below, and it's an epic patch that rivals patch 1.13"

You might remember Dry Docks in the beta gameplay videos released prior to Uncharted 3's release, but it never made it to the final version of the game - Naughty Dog are bringing that map pack with many improvements.

There were various reasons the map never made the original cut, one of those being time investment:

"It made sense to prevent our art team from investing time into the multiplayer version of Dry Docks to match the level of quality we adhere to at Naughty Dog --- therefore the Dry Docks map was cut."
Heavy rain pollutes the docks, creating a hectic atmosphere.
A view of the map from a distance, displaying both the boat and dock area.

REVIEW: Grand Theft Auto V

Rockstar have gone all-out with GTA V, giving players pretty much exactly what they've been waiting for.

Developer: Rockstar North | Publisher: Rockstar Games | Genre: Action / Sandbox

Think of everything you love about Grand Theft Auto, multiply that by a few hundred, and then you have Rockstar's latest creation; Grand Theft Auto V - a game of such large scale is difficult to breakdown in a single review due to the sheer depth of what's available to do in the world of Los Santos. It's been practically five years since the release of Grand Theft Auto IV, with the odd DLC here and there in between, and its safe to say - the wait was well worth it.

The game starts with a prelude involving Michael and Trevor, two of the main playable characters, which takes place during a heist 9 years prior to the actual games events - essentially this is a glorified tutorial, enabling players to familiarize themselves with the various gameplay mechanics.

That is just a small part of the narrative, the game revolves around the lives of all three characters, which eventually relate to each other in some way or the other. There's Michael - the once serious criminal, now turned family man, Trevor - a meth dealing red neck who isn't quite all there in the head, and finally Franklin - the stereotypical gangster who wants more than dealing petty drugs in the hood.

Each character has a unique ability - Michael's shooting can be enhanced, Trevor is able to conflict more damage whilst reducing damage taken, and Franklin is able to drive with superior driving skills, making chases and races much easier.

You'll grow to love each character the more you play, or you might resent them...
There is so much to do in this massive environment, from little things such as getting a tattoo or playing tennis, to finding yourself in intense gun-battles, torturing someone for information, or taking place in heart-pounding illegal street races at max speeds.

Missions start off at a pretty slow pace just like previous games, eventually moving onto far more complex tasks that reward you much more, you'll start doing things such as delivering cars, helping out friends, then you'll finally do your first heist job - one of the most distinguishing features of the game.

Heists allow you to earn a lot of money as long as you have the right preparation - before performing a heist, players must go through various tasks including finding the right getaway vehicle, hiring the appropriate people for each part of the job, and so on.

The amount of money earned at end all depends on you - there is a time frame in which you are able to steal lucrative items shall we say, if you're not quick enough, only a small amount of cash will be rewarded, however if you manage to actually steal every item available, expect a large deposit in your virtual bank account. Using the option to replay missions comes in handy here, especially if you don't do so well on your first try.

Concept portraying a heist - dressing up in
disguises with the intent to kill anyone who get's in the way.
Some missions won't be so straight-forward, and will actually make you continuously switch between characters depending a part of that particular mission, for example Michael could be planting sticky bombs on a boat, Franklin could be keeping watch from a building in the distance with a sniper rifle, whist Trevor waits around in the getaway car preparing to pick the other two up - this is definitely something new in the series and it should be welcomed with open arms as it proves for extremely entertaining gameplay and a sense of real teamwork.

Core gameplay mechanics are generally good, driving vehicles feels a lot easier, the cover-shooting system works well, especially in gang fights, but the option for auto-aim makes the game way too easy - you can literally shoot every enemy without practically no manual aiming - of course there are options to turn off auto-aim, it depends how much of a challenge you really want.

Each characters stats can be upgraded by performing certain tasks i.e. reaching top speeds, playing sports, swimming - almost everything you do will effect stat progression in some way or another, this reminds me of San Andreas, only more advanced.

There is so much to talk about in terms of gameplay - the rampage missions we're familiar with, taking part in triathlon events (actually more fun than it sounds), teaching your dog "Chop" new tricks, taking part in random events - giving you the option to hunt down criminals who have mugged citizens, and either keeping the money if giving it back like a decent human being. I usually keep the cash for myself.

From the very first GTA, music and the radio stations have played an important part, adding not only entertainment whilst playing, but also giving the series a sense of uniqueness - GTAV has a total of 16 radio stations, offering rap, punk rock, reggae, heavy metal, and so forth, catering for almost everyone's music tastes.

The graphics are visually pleasing - riding through the greenland with the sun on the horizon is actually really relaxing and takes you away from the chaotic life of San Andreas temporarily - for the most part, the visuals are fantastic, although there's lack of detail in some places due to such a large sandbox, which is completely understandable.

Each area of the enourmous map has its own personality, for example the rundown ghettos (including the infamous Grove Street) have their own look; chain linked fences surrounding cramped housing conditions, with gang members dotted around the place, whilst the upper-class suburban locations offer large expensive houses, perfectly catered for gardens, and trendy cars driving by almost constantly.

The sheer scope of this game is incredible, Rockstar have created something that will be played for years to come, just like past titles in the series are, having all three characters narratives play out is such a simple, yet effective way to improve the series - offering fantastic and entertaining gameplay, beautiful visuals, humorous themes, and a rich world offering so much to players, this game is truly epic in every sense of the word. PREVIEW: Super Mario 3D World - New Gameplay

Nintendo has revealed a glimpse into Mario's next adventure, featuring Luigi, Peach, and Toad.

The "Nintendo Minute" episode released today showcases some brand-new gameplay of the upcoming Wii U game; Super Mario 3D World. Strange how a 3DS version hasn't been announced, especially with "3D" being in the title.

Right off the bat, we see a new power-up - The Double Cherry, and what this does is creates an identical copy of the character a player is using, in this video it happens to be Luigi, once the cherries are consumed, another Luigi appears and follows the original Luigi, much like a conga train.

It is also said that if the player collects even more of these cherries, even more duplicates can be made - can you imagine a Super Mario train? That'd be awesome. Of course, players do have the option to separate the clones in order to reach certain areas in the level.

You'll probably notice another new power-up, in which players can physically pick up a Piranha Plant and use it to eat enemies that make their way into the plant's path

Ever wanted to pick up a Piranha Plant and
use it to your advantage? SM3D World let's you do just that.
In all the levels shown we see level designs that completely take advantage of the 3D element - whether it be navigating certain corridors, fighting enemies that are charging you from the top of the screen, and so on.

In terms of co-op play, like recent Mario titles - this option will be fully available for up to 4 players using different control schemes such as the Wii U Pro controller or the Wii U Gamepad. Although co-op is an option, each player can add competition by collecting more coins, gaining the most score from enemies, and so fourth, all of this adds up at the end of a level and displays the best player.

Players are able to collect power ups, store them and use them when they are needed the most, for example - you might already have a fire flower so you could still collect that item and use it if you happen to lose the one you already have.

Honestly, the first level shown does look a little on the bland side with no real Mario charm we've all grown to love, however the gameplay mechanics seem really interesting and look fun to take part in. That being said, the dark shadowy level later in the video does look great, and looks like a cross between Bowser's castle and a Ghost house.

Something that really stood out was the shadow gameplay, in which the players navigate through a section of the level using just their shadows, with a huge Piranha Plant shadow trying to kill you - very cool.

The game will release November 22 in US and November 29 throughout Europe. Check out the video below and leave your comments.
